Message from the SPA President

The 2017 CAPA conference tri-hosted by Fresno Paralegal Association, Kern County Paralegal Association and Sequoia Paralegal Association was a HUGE success!!  Thanks to all of the attendees for giving up your day off, getting up early and attending the conference during our heat wave!

The class speakers were top notch, Supervisor Amy Shuklian (and her opening joke) was amazing and United States Magistrate Judge Stanley A. Boone was a phenomenal speaker who kept us entertained for an entire hour!

My heartiest congratulations to conference chair Victoria Alonzo (FPA), Nancy Woods (SPA) and Erica Bjorstad (KCPA) for our successful conference.  The hard work and dedication you and ALL of your helpers put forth made for a successful conference.

I am extremely proud to announce that SPA member and CAPA Director Kari Martin-Higgins, APC has won the 2017 CAPA Paralegal of the Year!  Many of you may not know that Kari is one of the few paralegals in the Central Valley to be certified by NALA; therefore, she may use the designation of APC (Advanced Paralegal Certification) after her name.  Kari is currently VERY hard at work chairing the CCP committee that is currently working on an exam a California paralegal can take to become a certified paralegal in California.  Winning the CAPA Paralegal of the Year is an achievement well deserved and SPA is proud to be Kari’s home association.
